SWOL's programs are rooted in my deep personal connection to underserved youth. I was raised in an impoverished neighborhood by an alcoholic and drug-addicted father. For most of my childhood, I felt trapped and uncertain how to build a different future.
My high school counselor, Sister Jo, intervened at a critical moment, walking alongside me through landmines and helping me access higher education. I was fortunate to receive first-gen scholarships, complete my undergrad degree, and go on to attend the University of Michigan Law School.
While beginning my legal career at national law firms, I dedicated nearly all of my spare time to mentoring underserved youth. After years of hearing stories about the lack of resources for undocumented students and families, I finally made the leap to launch a service devoted just to them.
In 2012, I founded Students Without Limits to ensure that immigrant first-gen students have access to the support, guidance and tools necessary to survive immigration crises and pursue higher education.
